Brought to you from my new Vintage Time Reinvented Collection.
Merging pieces that are works of timeless engineering with modern gemstone design and metal work art.
This is a Leicht-Mayer Lucerne Bubble watch created around the 1930's.
Still in very good working order.
Roman Mayer, the founder of the jewelers’ shop bearing his name, was born in 1859. He was the 9th child of 14 to be born to his parents who ran a large and well reputed hotel in Pforzheim, a small town near Baden-Baden. In those days it was the summer capital of European decision makers, noblemen, investors and artists.
From the 18th century onwards, Pforzheim was known for its flourishing jewelry activity and even though it was a small bourgeois town, tourists would flock there.
The well-off Mayer children were also well educated and were able to mix rich financial and industrial families.
Shortly after the death of his mother, Bonaventura Mayer, but with a comfortable inheritance in hand, Roman emigrated to Switzerland with two of his elder brothers, Rudolf and Albert, and his younger sister Anna who later married the well-known jeweler, Emil Leicht.
You will be able to view the workings of this 17 Jewel Mechanical watch Gears and beautiful balance wheel.
See 5 of the 17 Ruby Jewels when peering into the back of the ball without a loop.
When a watch possesses exactly 17 jewels, it’s referred to as ‘fully-jewelled’. It will feature jewels throughout the entire movement, from the balance wheel to the escape lever.
Jewel bearings are used in precision instruments where low friction, long life, and dimensional accuracy are important.
Rubies are known as "the King of Precious Stones!"
Considered a stone of protection, love, energy, passion, power, and a zest for life.
I encountered this incredible mechanical bubble ball in need of a bail and chain. I have chosen small bicone Swarovski crystals in muted tones to go with the time period of this piece. The Vitrail crystals with subtle hues of plum purple, flashes of cobalt blue and silver are interspersed with silvery grey Swarovski's which have a mercury glass appearance when the light hits them.
I have wrapped each crystal with solid Sterling Silver wire and linked it into the lovely Sterling Silver Chain.
I have hand forged my signature wrapped loops done in a small oval style, then hammered so they are large enough for simple, secure closure that gives you adjustability.
You will find a dangle on the very last adjustable forged loop which I have created a torch balled Sterling Silver pin in my workshop and wire-wrapped as an elegant, yet simple finial for just that right amount of understated elegance.
Closure includes a solid Sterling Silver Lobster Clasp that is securely wire-wrapped with solid Sterling Silver wire for optimum security.
The bail has been forged from solid Sterling Silver and hammered.
Vintage description disclosure.
As this watch has literally stood the test of time, it will have wear expected for the decades of use and love.
For it's age it is in excellent condition.
There is some silver plating coming off the trim near crown.
The glass sides have light scratches, but not anything too deep. It takes a jeweler's loop to see, or a close up on the camera.
All chaining and Swarovski crystals is new.
This exquisite time piece would be lovely for a bride as it embodies the old and the new, perfect for an anniversary, birthday or just to say I love you.
Your one of a kind Mechanical Watch Necklace will arrive gift packaged with a description tag and careful instructions not to overwind.
Just as with any Mechanical piece, when not ticking
takes about 4 half turns.
Whenever any resistance is felt, it is imperative to stop so as not to break the gears and mechanism.
