I start with copper sheet metal and hand emboss the font of your choosing. The embossing is all hand tooled and great care, time and attention is taken to give it depth and texture. Last name, favorite phrase, etc.

Underneath I hand stamp your wedding or anniversary date along with the individual names. This can be done for a couple or family. This includes up to 5 names or a 5 word phrase. Please contact us if you require more than 5 names or words hand stamped for a special listing.

Some choose just the embossing of the large name, word or phrase and no hand stamping or just an est. date. Others choose both date and couples names. I have also hand stamped coordinates for a special place of meeting, wedding, honeymoon, first state or home location, etc. There are those who want the family names hand stamped on anniversary or family signs. The choice is yours for custom creation!

Next, I torch fire a patina onto the copper. This is like painting with a torch. I can achieve an array of colors ranging from vibrant, to more subdued hues. Each piece turns out unique and one of a kind. The large embossed letters are hand sanded to show bits and pieces of the shiny metal underneath. This gives the piece great character while contrasting with the aged look of the patina.

The copper art is then placed on a finished wood piece and set with finishing nails. This listing is for a sign on the natural wood with the original bark on the top and bottom. You may request natural, medium or dark stain.

You may choose the amount of letters for the embossing. This is usually the last name, a phrase, a place or even a store name. We have done a homebrew sign, Man Cave and Man Cage, a vacation home sign called "Journey's Reward", shop signs, remembrance, Wedding signs, Anniversary and family signs. Please note, each piece of wood varies. Some wood pieces may have curves due to the natural nature of the tree. Each sign is unique and one of a kind.

I am able to torch fire two types of finishes. The Old World muted has more subtle, earthy antiqued hues. The vibrant has brighter reddish, violet and blue hues for a more modern copper patina. The Wharff sign is the Old World muted and the others are examples of Vibrant and modern. We have included a photo of the embossing in the raw copper prior to the torch firing. Each sign comes with saw tooth brackets for easy hanging. These also look great in a picture easel. Please let us know if you would like twine or wire hanging which is provided at no additional charge.

A great deal of time and care are taken when creating your special, one of a kind piece. Please allow from 7 to 14 days for creation and shipment. During very busy periods please allow up to 2 weeks.

1) the name you want embossed
2) the date and names for the hand stamping only if you wish for hand stamping
3) if you prefer a different stain other than natural with varnish like dark or medium
4) if you prefer a different way of hanging other than brackets like wire or twine

Please note, you may also choose a phrase and we also have upgraded signs that are larger including those that have a special symbol, logo or design . . . La Cocina, Welcome, Man Cave etc. The link for a short phrase is here I have included a photograph of one done for a chicken coop The Copper Henny which included extra coats of wood protectant as requested by the client since they were placing it outdoors. Please note, if you choose to place your sign outdoors, you will have to re-coat it with a varnish or protectant over both copper and wood every year or so. Copper does darken and react if a varnish is put over it.
